Wiggins, 20, has been the prohibitive favorite since the Cleveland Cavaliers selected him No. 1 overall in last June's draft. While his NBA trajectory saw some fits and starts—most notably an August trade from the Cavaliers to the Timberwolves—Wiggins has been as advertised since his arrival in Minnesota.

The former Kansas star led all rookies by scoring 16.9 points per game, adding 4.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists. He also got markedly better as the season went along, finishing his rookie campaign by scoring 23.3 points per game during the month of April.

"Offensively, defensively, just being the person that I am off the court, I learned a lot," Wiggins told reporters earlier this month. "I've grown a lot since [training camp]."

Minnesota head coach Flip Saunders, who orchestrated the trade to land Wiggins last summer, has long touted his young protege as the rookie of the year.

"Anyone that throws anything else out, they're dreaming," Saunders said in March, per Andy Greder of the Pioneer Press. "He is the most dominant rookie. He's playing in a situation where because we've been so undermanned, he is the guy."

The Timberwolves, though sacrificing an All-NBA talent in Kevin Love to help make the trade happen, have built a promising young core. Ricky Rubio signed a long-term extension in October. Rookie Zach LaVine broke out down the stretch. And Gorgui Dieng looks like a solid rotational big. Add another promising piece in June's draft, and the future is bright.
